HFBC Picks For Book #3

Six Books to Vote for: Holliday Farms Book Club (HFBC) Junior Session

When: Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.

Location: TBA (tentatively at the HF Club)

For our next HFBC read, we’re shifting to memoirs, true stories that read like novels.

We’ve shortlisted six very different voices: Educated by Tara Westover, A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst, Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, The Tell by Amy Griffin, Solito by Javier Zamora, and Finding Me by Viola Davis.

Read the summaries, explore the authors, and cast your vote for the one you’d most like to devour next. Whether or not you attended the first two meetings, we want your input.

Voting will close on September 18, so please don’t wait!

Educated by Tara Westover (2022)

Born into an isolated survivalist family in Idaho, Tara steps into a classroom for the first time at 17 and eventually earns a PhD at Cambridge. A modern classic that’s been called one of the most unforgettable memoirs of the past decade.

In 1972, a couple abandons life on land to chase freedom by boat, until a whale sinks their ship, leaving them adrift in a tiny raft. This title reads like a survival thriller and a marriage drama rolled into one.

Crying in H Mart: A Memoir by Michelle Zauner (2023)

Musician Michelle Zauner (Japanese Breakfast) explores family, culture, and loss through the language of food. A NYT bestseller that blends lyrical prose with universal themes of grief and belonging.

The Tell: A Memoir by Amy Griffin (2025)

A decorated athlete and successful woman confronts buried childhood trauma while interrogating perfectionism and control. Oprah’s newest Book Club pick is buzzworthy, raw, and highly discussable.

Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora (2023)

At nine years old, Zamora journeys alone from El Salvador to the U.S., a child’s-eye view of migration and survival. Zamora is now an award-winning poet, and his lyrical style makes this memoir as literary as it is gripping.

Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis (2023)

Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner Viola Davis recounts her rise from poverty to stardom. As a NYT bestseller, this story is bold, authentic, and inspiring from one of today’s most celebrated actresses.

Did any of these titles catch your interest? They are all great picks for our HFBC next book club, so feel free to vote and add them all to your reading list!
